The Judgement Call

One of the chapters my devotions was in today was Matthew chapter 7. It starts off with "Judge not, that ye be not judged." It is one of the most quoted scriptures I have personally heard from non-church goers. Usually due to their uncomfortableness about something they have done or said in your presence. The fact of the matter is we make judgement calls all the time. Either consciously or unconsciously. John chapter 7 tells us to judge righteous judgement.
Every time I see a classic muscle car I think, What a great car! Every time I see a quarterback making great plays, I conclude he's a good player. Those are some positive examples of making judgements. The verse is usually not quoted in a positive usage but to tell the hearer that we shouldn't make judgements. Jesus is showing in this chapter that it will happen and to be careful about it when it comes to others.
Christ tells us that we will be judged by the harshness of our own judgement and that we should look within ourselves of the sins we commit before judging too harshly. That if we want to help others, do what is right ourselves.
Jesus then goes on in Matthew chapter 7 verses 7- 14 to build upon and to tell how to do what He's just said. It starts with an intimate right relationship with Him as a son or daughter would have with an earthly Father. He also tells how to become the son or daughter, Enter the Narrow Gate. In John chapter 10 we see that He is the Gate.
He says these things that we may have the right relationship with Him and the wisdom to judge rightly because as we learn of Him, His judgement is true ( John 8 v. 16-18). That we would judge and treat others the way we would want to be judged and treated.
Ask for Him and seek Him today, you will find Him.
